Australia Once Again Being Lead Backwards Into The Future By The Liberal Party
The conservative nature of the Australian collective conscience never fails to amaze this author.
Just when I thought that the stalwarts of Australian conservative political ideals could not shift themselves any further to the right, they reaffirm their credentials by ousting one of their most progressive thinkers, Malcolm Turnbull and replace him with their champion catholic bully boy, Tony Abbott.
For those who support Tony Abbott, please stop and think for a moment about these two scenarios. Try to imagine what life might be like for a rape victim. Imagine she had become pregnant as a result of being raped and then having the likes of Tony Abbott tell her that she may not have her unwanted pregnancy terminated. Or try to imagine if you can, being a happy and loving gay couple, but having Tony Abbott tell you that you cannot marry your chosen life partner. Are these the hallmarks of a tolerant and equal society?
These recent developments within the conservative political circles also mean that Australia, one of the worlds leading coal exporters and one of the worlds leading per capita polluting nations will go to the Copenhagen climate conference with no emissions trading scheme and with largely nothing to offer.
From the country that brought you Robert Menzies and John Howard, I really should not be surprised by these developments and simply learn to lower my expectations.
A Comment on the “Black Armband” versus “White Blindfold” debate about Australian History
In the opinion of this author, the current arguments over Australian history seem to miss the point and perpetuate the same old attitudes of denial and ignorance.
It would appear that the supporters of the heroic and healthy view of modern Australian history would have us forget about the ugly facts, which as far as I am aware, are not in dispute. For the supporters of the sanitised version of modern Australian history, I would like to discuss the following matters.
Terra Nullius
The Latin expression meaning “Land Belonging to No one”. Use of this term in early Australian law dates back to 1827. But it appears that settlement or invasion as such, which began in 1788, is based upon the assumption that the Australian continent was not occupied and “up for grabs”. It also appears that the Terra Nullius view, that the Australian continent belonged to no one, remained “lawful” until the Mabo judgment by the high court of Australia in 1992. Rather a contrast to the all too common belief that the injustices committed against Aboriginals largely took place 200 or more years ago.
The White Australia Policy
It appears that the roots of this policy began in 1879 and 1880, when the authorities of the day imposed restrictions on both Irish and Chinese immigration to maintain the British character of the nation. Please view these links for further details;

Arguably, this mentality, that is, a preference for a predominately British character for the Australian population is alive and well in 2009. Fully 25% of the area of the modern Australian flag consists of the British union jack. More alarmingly, the modern Australian flag contains no reference to the traditional owners of this continent, the Aboriginals. It is also notable in the opinion of this this author that the referendum held in 1999 for Australia to become a republic was defeated. As such, the Queen of England continues to be the head of state of Australia. If one cares to engage the average Australian on this subject, more often than not, one will discover that the “If it’s not broken, then don’t fix it” mentality prevails.
It also appears that during the 1800’s, the Aboriginals were treated as native fauna and protection was supposedly provided under the Aborigines Protection Board established in New South Wales in 1883. However, Aboriginals continued to be massacred, dispossessed of their land and their way of life, while generally being rounded up and contained into reserves, separated from the growing non-indigenous population. The official end of the “white Australia policy” did not eventuate until the 1960’s under the Holt government. Considering the ratios of Anglo Protestant males who occupy corporate executive positions and government and ministerial positions, the casual observer could be fooled into thinking that the “white Australia policy” was still officially in place to this day.
Aboriginals granted the right to vote
This right or civic responsibility which is taken for granted by mainstream society, was not extended to the Aboriginal people federally, until 1962 on a voluntary basis. Once again, the recent nature of these events is of concern to this author. I re-iterate this point, as it is an all too common misconception, that atrocities and inequities in general concerning the Australian Aboriginals, are aberrations which occurred hundreds of years ago.

I do wish to make mention in this post of one particular massacre which occurred in 1816. Like so many of the conflicts between the Aboriginal traditional owners and the white settlers, this dispute began over the scarcity of food. The hostilities escalated until the governor of the day, Lachlan Macquarie ordered the military to attack the Aboriginals. This resulted in the deaths of 14 men woman and children of the Dharawal people. The men were beheaded by the military. Local white settlers then trampled on the woman and children with their horses and drove the remaining people over a cliff at Broughton Pass near Appin in New South Wales. This particular governor, who ordered the attacks, lives on in Australian history until this day. Rather than being remembered for, or tried for his crimes against humanity, this governor has a famous street named after him in Sydney. Indeed, the New South Wales parliament building, along with many prominent medical specialists are located on Macquarie Street Sydney. There is also a university named after him in New South Wales. There is also a lake and a river named after this individual.
The Challenges to Aboriginal equality in 2009
The recent productivity commission report into Aboriginal disadvantage is a damning indication of the injustice and inequality faced by Indigenous Australians today. Life expectancy for Indigenous Australians is 20 years less than the national average for both men and women. Rates of infant mortality, diabetes, alcoholism, other substance abuse and incarceration rates are all at huge multiples of the national averages.
More alarming and quite possibly directly linked, is the uncaring and racist mentality of the Australian public. While Indigenous Australians are not the sole recipients of this prevailing national consciousness, they are the most disadvantaged members of modern Australian society.

Recently, the conservative australian labour government, lead by Kevin Rudd, has been cited as not having an “over-arching narative” for the nation.
The prime minister Kevin Rudd and his right wing administration have been in office now for nine months. But to date, they have not proven themselves to be the socially responsible and nation building government that the australian electorate expected.
Beyond failing to provide any form of narative, our nation’s economy chokes and splutters, our inadequate infrastructure crumbles, our businesses cry out for skilled staff and our inflation rate increases, while our Mr Rudd and his cohorts foolishly bask in a $22 billion budget surplus.
The stupidity of this tory labour government is overwhelming. They are desperately trying to emulate their right wing political heroes from the past, namely; John Howard, Malcolm Fraser and Robert Menzies, when the reason the australian people voted for them was to empower a socially responsible, caring nation building administration.

Product publicity is the “secret pathway” to business success
everyone wants. In simple terms, product publicity is a kind of
advertising that costs you nothing, yet brings in the orders for
you.
Regardless of what kind of business you are operating, you
should want, and strive for, as much publicity for your business
and your products or services, as possible. After all, it’s
“free advertising” that is essential to the growth of your
business. However, your publicity efforts should be well
thought out, and pre-planned for maximum results.
The first, and basic form of obtaining publicity is through what
is known as the press or news release. This is generally a one
page story about your business, your product/service or an
event/happening related to your business that is about to, or
has recently occurred. These publicity stories are generally
“shot-gunned” to all the various media: local newspapers, radio
and TV, and trade publications.
Problem number one is getting the people to whom you’ve sent
these publicity stories, to use them – publish or broadcast
them. And this leads us back to the “right way ” of writing
them and sending them in.
In every case, send a short cover letter addressed to the person
you want your material to be considered by. This means that
you send your story to the city editor of the newspapers; the
news directors of the radio and TV stations; and the managing
editors of the various trade publications. It will do you no
good whatsoever, to send your material to the advertising,
circulation or business managers – describing how you’re a
long-time advertiser, subscriber or listener. The most
important thing is that you make contact with the person who has
the final say as to what is to be published or broadcast, and at
the bottom line – this person’s use of your material will
somehow make him a “hero” to his or her readers, viewers or
listeners.
The cover letter should be a short note. Go to a paper supplier
- tell him you want a hundred or so sheets of good bond paper -
8 1/2 by 11 preferably in a pastel colour such as blue or ivory
- and that you want this paper cut into quarters, giving you a
grand total of 400 sheets of note paper. “From the desk of…”
note sheets are too elaborate until the people you’re contacting
get to know you – first time around, and until they use your
material, don’t use these semi-formal note sheets.
On this note sheet, begin with the date across the top – skip a
couple of spaces and then quickly tell the recipient of the
note that the attached material is new and should be of real
interest to his or her readers, viewers or listeners. We advise our
dealers and distributors of MONEY MAKING MAGIC – our regular
publication for serious wealth builders and extra income seekers
- to send the following note to the editors and news directors
of the media in their areas:
“Here’s something that ’s new, and for a change, truly helpful,
to people trying to cope with inflation – the soaring costs of
living – and those engaged in building extra income businesses
of their own. This should be of real value – interest – to your
readers. Please take a look – any questions, or if you need
more info, give me a call at: (503) 666-5824…” Then, of
course, you skip about four spaces, type your name, your
business name, and your address – sign your name above where
you’ve typed it, and staple this note in the upper right hand
corner of your news release. This note should be typed and
double-spaced.
So now, you’ve got a cover letter, and you know who to send it
to. Type up one such note and take it to a near-by
quick-print shop. Have them copy the note 4 times, paste these
4-copies onto one sheet of paper, print 50 to 100 copies, and
cut the paper into individual notes, all for less that $10. Do
not try to save money by photo-copying or Xeroxing – a
photo-copy is a photo-copy is a photo-copy, and will not do the
job for you…
Now you need the actual publicity release, which also must be
“properly” written if you expect it to be used by the media.
Above all else, there’s a proper form or style to use, plus the
fact that it must be typed, double-spaced, and short – about a
half page in total length.
About an inch from the top of the paper, with an inch and a half
margin on each side of the paper; from the left hand margin,
type in all capital letters: PRESS RELEASE: Then, underline
these words. Immediately following the colon, but not in all
capital letters, put in the date. Always set the date forward
by at least one day after the day you intend to mail the release.
On the same line, but on the right hand side of the page, and in
all capital letters, write the words, FOR FURTHER INFORMATION:
Underline this, and immediately below, but not in all capital
letters, type your name – your phone number – and your address.
Skip a couple of spaces, then in all capital letters – centred
between the margins – type a story headline, and underline it.
Skip a couple of spaces, and from the left hand margin, all in
capital letters, type the words, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: From
there on, it’s the news or publicity story itself.
You can write the headline before the story, and then a story to
fit the headline – or the story before the headline, and then a
headline to fit the story – either way, it’s basically the same
as writing a space ad or a sales letter. You attract attention
and interest with the headline and fill in the details with your
story.
Here’s an example of the headlines we use on publicity blurbs
for MONEY MAKING MAGIC:

Notice how we continue to sell or involve the editor – His or her
readers are always looking for better ways to make ends meet,
and he/she specifically interested as to what our promise
involves… He/she wants his/her readers to “think well” of him/her for
enlightening them with this source of help, so he/she reads into the
story to find out who, what and how.
Suffice it to say that your headline, and the story you present
to the editor, must sell him/her on the benefits of your product or
service to his/her readers. Unless it specifically does this, he/she
will not use it. You must sell the first person receiving your
materials. Keep this fact uppermost in your mind as you write
it. The person you send your press or publicity release to,
must quickly see and understand how your product or service will
benefit his/her readers – thereby making him/her a hero to them – and
he/she must be assured it will do what you promise in your headline.
Come right to the point and say your product is lower in price,
more convenient to use or in what way your product or service is
useful to the people in general. It’s also a good idea to
include a complimentary sample of your product or an opportunity
for him to sample your services.
Remember, the editors receiving your information are fully aware
of your purposes – Free Advertising! They are not in the least
interested in you or your credentials – If you’ve sold them on
the benefits of your business to their readers, and they want
background details, they’ll call you. That’s why you list your
telephone number and address.
These people are busy people. They have not got the time nor
the interest in reading about your trials and tribulations or
plans for the future. They want only “a flag” that alerts them
to something new and of probable real interest to their readers.
Sell the editor first. Convince him/her that you’ve found the
better mousetrap. Show him/her that your product or service – that
your business – fills a need and/or will interest a large
segment of his/her readers, his/her viewers or listeners.
When an editor uses your publicity release, always follow-up
with a short thank you note. Never, but never send a publicity
release to an editor and then call or write demanding to know
why he/she didn’t use it, use it as you wrote it, or only gave you a
quick mention. Do this once, and that particular media will
“round-file” any further material received from you, unopened!
If your first effort is not used, then you should review the
story itself; perhaps write it from a different angle; make
sure you’re sending it to the proper person – and try again!
As stated earlier, these people are busy, with hundreds of
publicity releases passing across their desks every day – They
only have so much space or time – therefore, your material has
to stand out and in some way, fit with the information they -
the editors – want to pass along to their readers, viewers or
listeners. Regardless of your business, product, or service,
you must build your press release – write it – around that
particular angle or feature that makes it beneficial or interest
to the readers, viewer or listeners of the media you want to run
your press release. Without this special ingredient, you’re
lost before you begin!
The timing of your press release is always important. Try to
associate your press release with current events in the news. A
story on job lay-offs and increased unemployment carried in the
newspapers, on TV and radio would prompt us to get a publicity
release out to all the media on the help and opportunity offered
by MONEY MAKING MAGIC! Say there’s a deluge of chain letters
and pyramid schemes making the round – the media picks up on it
and attempts to warn the people to beware… Within 5 days, we
would get a publicity release out, explaining the availability
of our report on chain letters and pyramid schemes – a report
that explains everything from A to Z – who’re the winners and
who’re the real losers.
There’s another kind of timing also to keep in mind…
Publication deadlines. For best results, always try to time it
so your material reaches the editor in time for the Sunday
paper. This is because that’s when the papers have their
greatest circulation; the most space is available and the
people, the most time to read the paper.
For articles you’d like to appear in the Sunday paper, you’ll
generally have to get your release in at least nine days prior
to the date of publication. If you’re in doubt, call and ask
about the deadline date.
IN SUMMARY:
Choose the media most likely to carry your press release.
Select those that carry similar write-ups on a regular basis.
Always use a cover letter of some kind. It pays to call ahead
to find out the name of the person you should be sending your
press release to.
Use the proper press release form, complete with a headline that
will interest the man deciding whether or not to use your item.
Be sure your press release is letter perfect – no typo’s or
misspelled words – and don’t photo-copy – always have each
letter or press release individually typed or printed.
When your item is used, send a thank you note or call the editor
on the phone and thank him/her for using your press release.
Never, but never call or write an editor demanding to know why
he/she didn’t use your press release, why he had it rewritten or cut
it short – just try, and try again!

some positive trends developing. Just repeat these trends and
it will help you to make more money!
How would you like to find a name list of several hundred (or
even thousand) people who might be interested in the particular
product or service you are selling based on their jobs or
interests? Wouldn’t that be great!? Well, you can! And the

membership.
This little unknown tool is called the “Member Directory!” You
can do searches in the directory for other users with certain
characteristics. For example, if you were selling fishing
equipment, you could do a search by “fishing.” All of the people
that were registered in the directory and had listed fishing as

could now send each one of those people an e-mail message
telling them about your product or service, it’s just like using
a mailing list, but you have no postage! (*Make sure you check

“browsing” in the different topic forums. Using the earlier
example of looking for people who fish, you could look under
sports until you found a discussion on fishing. You could then
take note of the users’ names that were participating in the
discussions. You could do the same thing on the INTERNET with
one of the many newsgroup topics that they have.
The bottom line is that you “test” and record the results of
your Online Marketing efforts. Then just repeat the steps that
are making you money and expand on them to reach more people.

mailing lists that are dedicated to marketing on the Internet.
You will also find hundreds of articles on the World Wide Web.
By searching one of the WWW search engines like WebCrawler you
can find all the information you can read. Use search strings

online”, and so on.

Advertise Your Business For Free! Here Are Some Ideas.
The opportunities for getting free advertising for your product
or services are limited only by your own imagination and
energies. There are so many proven ways of promoting your
objectives without cost that it literally boggles the mind just
to think of listing them.
One way is to write an article relative to your particular
expertise and submit it to all the publications and media dealing
in the dissemination of related information. In other words,
become your own publicity and sales promotions writer. Get the
word out; establish yourself as an expert in your field, and
“tag-along” everything you write with a quick note listing your
address for a catalogue, dealership opportunity, or more
information.
Another really good way is by becoming a guest on as many of the
radio and television talk shows or interview type programs as
possible. Actually, this is much easier to bring about than most
people realize. Write a letter to the producer of these programs,
then follow up with an in-person visit or telephone call. Your initial
contact should emphasize that your product or service would be of
interest to the listeners or viewers of the program–perhaps even
saving them time and money.
Other ways of getting free or very inexpensive exposure include
the posting of advertising circulars on all free bulletin boards
in your area, especially the coin-operated laundries, grocery
stores, and beauty and barber shops. Don’t discount the idea of
handing out circulars to all the shoppers in busy shopping
centres’ and malls, especially on weekends. You can also enlist the
aid of the middle school students in your area to had out
circulars door-to-door.
Some of the more routine methods include having a promotional ad
relative to your product or service printed on the front or back
of your envelopes at the time you have them printed with your
return address.
Be sure to check all the publications that carry the kind of
advertising you need. Many mail order publications just getting
started offer unusually low rates to first-time advertisers; a
free-of-charge insertion of your ad when you pay for an order to
run three issues or more; or special seasonal ad space at greatly
reduced rates. And there are a number of publications that will
give you Per Inquiry (PI) space–arrangement where all orders
come in to the publication, they take a commission from each
order, and then forward the orders on to you for fulfilment.
Many publications will give you a contract for space. In this
arrangement you send them your ad, and they hold it until they
have unsold space, and then at a price that’s always one third or
less the regular price for the space need, insert your ad. Along
these lines, be sure to check in with the suburban neighbourhood
newspapers.
If you send out or publish any kind of catalogue or ad sheet, get
in touch will all the other publishers and inquire about the
possibilities of exchange advertising. They run your ad in their
publication in exchange for your running an ad for them of
comparable size in yours.
Finally, there’s nothing in the world that beats the low cost and
tremendous exposure you get when you advertise a free offer.
Simply run an ad offering a free report of interest to most
people— a simple one page report with a “tag-line” inviting the
readers to send money for more information, with a full page
advertisement for your book or other product on the backside. Ask
for a self-addressed stamped envelope, and depending on the
appeal for your report and circulation of the publication in
which your ad appears, you could easily be inundated with
responses!
The trick here, of course, is to convert all these responses, or
a large percentage of them, into sales. This is done via the
“tag-line,” which issues an invitation to the reader to send for
more information, and the full page ad on the back of the report,
and other offers you include with the complete package you send
back to them. As mentioned at the beginning of this report, it’s
just a matter of unleashing your imagination. Do that, and you
have a powerful force working for you that can help you reach
your goals.
